Selling a Kona Stinky. Not sure of the year. The bike is in good shape but it does need work done on the front break. The screw to fill with fluid came out so it lost all the fluid, the guy at the bike shop said it was an easy fix but I don’t have the time because I’m moving. The seat on the bike is also torn up but it gets the job done. The tires are still in great shape though. Shipping should be around 50-70 depending on where you live. SHIPPING IS $100.00.

2004 Kona Dawg Dee-Lux Full Suspension Mountain Bike. I bought this brand new frame and built this up out of parts I had around the house. Due to three moves I haven’t had much time to ride it. XTR, King, Race Face, Fox, Cane Creek, Custom Wheels, this is a high quality build. The cable brakes were added because I couldn’t find a set of hydraulics that afforded the adjustability of the BB7s coupled with the Speed Dial Levers. The bosses are all set up for hydros and it would be an easy swap back to hydros. The Cloud Nine replaced the old Fox shock that leaked flat on me twice. If you are unfamiliar with the Cloud Nine, look it up on MTBR, it has very good reviews, it’s a top quality shock and will not let you down, they just don’t leak. The Dawg frame was brand new when I purchased it. This is a very good all mountain build.

4-Bar linkage on everything from the Hei Hei XC Race bike to our DH Stab
Supreme.

Function and Durability: Anytime you have a pivot in
anything, there is side-to-side movement, or tolerance. It’s what allows
the pivot to move freely. When you have pivots that are close together,
like in more complicated multi-pivot designs, the side-to-side movement
in those pivots becomes amplified, what’s called tolerance stacking.
Kona’s 4-Bar system keeps pivots as far away from each other as
possible, thus minimizing tolerance stacking. Ultimately, it equates a
stiffer rear end, as well a significant decrease in bearing and bushing
wear.

Another benefit of our 4-Bar system is minimized side load on the rear
shock. If you’ve got close pivot points and/or the shock positioned so
that it is exposed to lateral forces, you’ve got side load on the shock.
Side load causes resistance, which negatively impacts suspension
performance. Side load also causes premature seal failures.

With our 4-Bar system the rear shock is protected from side-to-side
forces. As a result, we have a super low rate of shock problems, as well
as a very responsive feel to the rear suspension.
Tunability: 4-Bar allows for a rainbow of different
suspension characteristics, after all, this is the suspension platform
used for F1 racecars. For XC bikes, we can take an inherently
progressive air shock and make the suspension more linear, allowing the
rider to benefit from all of the bike’s travel. For downhill bikes, like
our Operators, an inherently linear coil shock can be set-up to be more
progressive for big hits.

7005 Aluminum

Aluminum is currently the most widely used tubing material in the
bicycle industry. Aluminum is often mixed with a number of other
elements to create aluminum alloys featuring a host of different ride
characteristics, while increasing mechanical properties. Much of our
tubing is butted and/or formed, meaning that the wall thickness of the
tubing can be increased or decreased, as well as shaped, allowing us to
fine tune a particular frame’s ride characteristics depending on the
application. Kona uses butted 7005 aluminum extensively throughout our
entire range of mountain, asphalt and road bicycles. A tough, durable,
affordable, light, and dependable alloy, 7005 delivers great performance
that lasts for thousands of rides. It is, by far and away, the ultimate
aluminum tubing on the market today.

Sloping Top Tube

Kona recognized the advantages of sloping top tube frame design right
from the original models we made in 1988, designed by inaugural MTB Hall
of Fame legend Joe Murray. As a company, we’ve stayed true to this
philosophy, going so far as to pioneer the design in road bikes before
the benefits were understood. Today, you’ll find sloping top tubes in
most high-end road race bicycles. We’ve since stayed true to all the
many positives this design brings to overall bike performance and
comfort.

First, this design allows the top tube to be lower, providing more room
for correct positioning and free body movement, enabling more standover
clearance, which is particularly useful on dual suspension bikes that
have higher bottom brackets. Riders have a more secure riding position,
which is especially beneficial when riding downhill sections.

Also, the top tube is longer and more compliant. As the top and down
tube become more parallel, there’s less triangulation, resulting in more
compliancy. So not only is the frame stronger and more responsive, but
it absorbs more shock than frames with horizontal top tubes.
Compact Rear Triangle

Short chain stays and seat stays provide a perfect balance of stability
and power transfer when out of the saddle and pedaling hard. Shorter
seat stays also have less deflection during braking and accelerate
quicker than longer stays. The shorter rear triangle also helps the bike
to negotiate tight twisting sections of trail.

Internal Headset

By having the headset bearing located inside the headtube (what’s
sometimes called zero stack), rather than the top and bottom, we are
able to achieve a wide array of advantages when it comes to front end
stiffness and overall riding performance. With an internal headset, the
head tube is able to take the stress directly, resulting in less play
and less wear, with strong ride characteristics, and better bearing
performance.

An internal headset also reduces stack height, enabling the height of
the stem and bars to be more adjustable, the bike has more setup
options, resulting in the best fit possible.

Kona Sizing and Fit

Sizing and fit have always been one of the main strengths of the Kona
range, with more stock sizes available than any other bike company. With
our range of bicycles expanding significantly over the last couple of
years, we felt it was time to overhaul our size scale.

We started with the overwhelming request for longer top tubes on our XC
mountain bikes. The average increase is ½-inch (15-20mm), which we
coupled with shorter stems and slightly shorter headset stack heights.
The steps between sizes were evened out to ½-inch or 1-inch increments,
and there are still up to 7 sizes: from 14-inch to 22-inch on many
models.

In the asphalt range, top tube lengths were marginally lengthened, with
the size gaps revised to even 15 to 20mm steps. There are still up to 6
sizes” from 46cm to 61cm on most models.

When it’s called for, seat posts are either offset or straight to
maximize the reach and power output of the rider. More importantly, the
overall sizing on mountain bikes and road bikes allow Kona dealers and
riders to determine their fit more easily from model to model and
category to category.

The net result is better fit on the entire range, with a simplified
system that allows easy fine-tuning and a perfect marriage of bike and
rider throughout our entire 2011 range.

Up for auction is a well used 2007 Kona Kula Supreme mountain bike frame.

Made of light weight scandium.

Frame can use either V-brakes or Disc brakes.

Bottom bracket shell size: 68mm wide (pictured bottom bracket not included).

Condition: The frame is well used with many, many scratches, scuffs, nicks and chips (no dents). The seat tube water bottle cage bolts are frozen and both bosses spins freely within the frame (there are scratches from trying to remove bolts — see photo). Down tube water bottle cage bolts are fine. Otherwise the frame is in good working condition. Bottom bracket, pictured, not included.

2009 Kona Stinky Air Large 17″ Freeride Frame and Fork

Up for sale is a used 2009 Kona Stinky Air 17″ (largest frame size offered in 2009) with FSA Orbit Extreme Pro 1.5 headse, and Kona’s DOPE system (more information below). Frame was gently used, for freeriding that is, and everything still works like new but has a few cosmetic scratches in the finish (see photos). All items included make this a pretty sweet deal, the DOPE system is about $300 alone. If you want the best of the best when it comes to freeride bikes then this is it! Ride everywhere on this bike and down anything you can think up with no worries about breaking your bike or landing safely. Well, steering is up to you. D.O.P.E.

Short for Drop Out Performance Enhancement, D.O.P.E. is a floating brake system that allows suspension to be fully active while under full brake. Up for grabs is a 16.5″ Kona Stinky 09. I bought this bike new and only rode it one season. This bike is in great shape! It does have some minor scraps and scratches. But nothing that really stands out. On the rear right triangle there is some green paint from rubbing against another bike. But I think I can remove before shipping. It’s pretty much stock except for – a F.U.N.N. saddle, Kenda 26 x 2.7 tires, and white Kona Wah Wah pedals.
